Safer Drivers Course Richmond

What is the Safer Drivers Course Richmond?

The safer drivers course Richmond helps young drivers on their L-Plates prepare for driving solo when they get their P-Plates. The course provides practical advice and safety strategies to Learner drivers, utilising videos and slides.

The course teaches learner drivers how to reduce the risks of driving on the road and how to use safe driving strategies to avoid car accidents. The course includes

  • Crash Avoidance Spaces
  • Speed Management
  • Hazard Perception
  • Speed Management
  • Safe following distances

Why do the course?

Research shows the greatest risk of being involved in a fatal accident occurs in the first 6 months of getting your P's. The aim of the course is to prepare students to be solo ready when they get their Provisional Licences. At the conclusion of the course participants will be able to

  • Apply low risk driving strategies to minimise the risks of driving
  • Be better equipped to deal with pear pressure, passenger behaviour and other distractions
  • Apply safe driving strategies to help them cope with typical lifestyle pressures

Get 20 Log Book Hours

As well as becoming a safer driver you also earn an extra 20 Log book hours when you complete the course. This is in addition to the 20 hours credit you receive when you complete 10 structured driving lessons with a qualified driving instructor. When you have a driving lesson you get 2 bonus log book hours for every one hour driving lesson. This means 10 hours of driving lessons = 30 log book hours. When you combine the Safer drivers course with 10 hours of driving lessons you get 50 hours in your log book.

Module 1

Is an interactive workshop conducted in a class room. Under the guidance of a driving instructor and highly trained facilitator, participants get the opportunity to discuss road safety strategies in a relaxing and stress free environment. Through the use of videos we explore the various risk factors associated with motor vehicle accidents. Most importantly participants are given ideas on how they can manage those risks and become safer drivers.

Module 2

Gives participants the opportunity to apply safe driving strategies in real life situations. Under the guidance of a professional driving instructor you can apply the lessons learnt in module 1. You will learn how to recognise risky situations and how to manage them.

Please note the Roads & Maritime Services requires students be paired up into groups of two for this module. Whilst we will endeavour to place all learners in their preferred transmission type, some manual learners may be required to do this module in an automatic car.
