AUSTRALIAN DRIVER TRAINERS ASSOCIATION
is an accredited provider of the Transport of NSW Safer Drivers Course
The safer drivers course Warners Bay has been developed by the Roads & Maritime services to prepare learner drivers for driving solo. Crash statistics show that learner drivers are 20-30 times more likely to be in a fatal accident when they start driving on their P Plates. This course has been specifically designed by leading road safety experts and academics to meet the needs of learner drivers aged 18 - 25 years old.
Young drivers are most at risk of being injured in a motor vehicle accident when they first start driving on their own. We know that learning safe driving strategies reduces the chances of being involved in a motor vehicle accident. When you do the safer drivers course with the Australian Driver Trainers Association you are assured of receiving the latest training from professional driving instructors who specialise in your local area.
The safer drivers course is a combined theoretical and practical driving course for learner drivers aged under 25 years old who have completed 50 log book hours of actual driving. The course is specifically designed for young learner drivers to help them avoid potentially dangerous situations whilst driving solo. The course looks at several key risk factors in motor vehicle accidents including:
- Crash Avoidance Space
- Speed Management
- Hazard Perception
- Gap Selection
- Decision making
- Safe following distance
The course is divided into two modules
Is a three hour group discussion led by a facilitator an experience facilitator from the Australian Driver Trainers Association. With a maximum of 12 learner drivers your facilitator will guide you through the various risk factors that contribute to motor vehicle accidents. By engaging with your peers learner drivers are able to share experiences and discuss the risks associated with driving. By doing this students are able to develop a greater understanding of road safety issues.
This is a two hour drive with a qualified driving instructor and another learner driver. Under the guidance of a professional driving instructor learners are given the opportunity to apply the lessons learnt in module 1 on the road. Students are given the opportunity to apply and develop safe driving practices in real life situations which improves their ability to recognise and manage potentially dangerous situations.
Note it is a Roads and Maritime Services condition that students be paired up into groups of two for this module. Whilst we will endeavour to place each student in their preferred transmission type it may be necessary for some manual drivers to do module 2 in an automatic car.
